Townes Van Zandt - I'll Be Here In The Morning

There's no stronger wind than the one that blows
Down a lonesome railroad line
No prettier sight than looking back
On a town you left behind
There is nothin' that's as real
As a love that's in my mind

Close your eyes
I'll be here in the morning
Close your eyes
I'll be here for a while

There's lots of things along the road
I'd surely like to see
I'd like to lean into the wind
And tell myself I'm free
But your softest whisper's louder
Than the highways call to me

All the mountains and the rivers
And the valleys can't compare
To your blue lit dancin' eyes
And yellow shining hair
I could never hit the open road
And leave you layin' there

Lay your head back easy, love,
Close your cryin' eyes
I'll be layin' here beside you
When the sun comes on the rise
I'll stay as long as the cuckoo wails
And the lonesome bluejay cries.

Au Revoir Simone - Stay Golden

I saw it coming
I just thought that you should know
I'm feeling better every day
I'm only waiting if you stay
So don't feel bad
Your faith was an illusion
And you're as loyal as your faith
Will let you be

Your expectation
It's not hard to live without
I'm feeling better every day
And emptiness still leaves a space
So don't feel bad
You lost all your emotion
And may you find all your relations
Will keep you free

A careless bird is complicated
An empty nest still leaves a space

It's plain to see, the sun won't shine today
But I ain't in the mood for sunshine anyway
Maybe I'll go insane
I got to stop the pain
Or maybe I'll go down to see Kathleen.

A swallow comes and tells me of her dreams
She says she'd like to know just what they mean
I feel like I could die
As I watch her flying by
Ride the north wind down to see Kathleen.

Stars hang high above, the oceans roar
The moon is come to lead me to her door
There's crystal across the sand
And the waves, they take my hand.
Soon I'm gonna see my sweet Kathleen.

Soon I'm gonna see my sweet Kathleen.

Dave Carter - When I Go

Come, lonely hunter, chieftain and king
I will fly like the falcon when I go
Bear me my brother under your wing
I will strike fell like lightning when I go

I will bellow like the thunder drum, invoke the storm of war
A twisting pillar spun of dust and blood up from the prairie floor
I will sweep the foe before me like a gale out on the snow
And the wind will long recount the story, reverence and glory, when I go

Spring, spirit dancer, nimble and thin
I will leap like coyote when I go
Tireless entrancer, lend me your skin
I will run like the gray wolf when I go

I will climb the rise at daybreak, I will kiss the sky at noon
Raise my yearning voice at midnight to my mother in the moon
I will make the lay of long defeat and draw the chorus slow
I'll send this message down the wire and hope that someone wise is listening when I go

And when the sun comes, trumpets from his red house in the east
He will find a standing stone where long I chanted my release
He will send his morning messenger to strike the hammer blow
And I will crumble down uncountable in showers of crimson rubies when I go

Sigh, mournful sister, whisper and turn
I will rattle like dry leaves when I go
Stand in the mist where my fire used to burn
I will camp on the night breeze when I go

And should you glimpse my wandering form out on the borderline
Between death and resurrection and the council of the pines
Do not worry for my comfort, do not sorrow for me so
All your diamond tears will rise up and adorn the sky beside me when I go

Simon And Garfunkel - A Poem On The Underground Wall

The last train is nearly due,
The underground is closing soon,
And in the dark deserted station,
Restless in anticipation,
A man waits in the shadows.

His restless eyes leap and scratch,
At all that they can touch or catch,
And hidden deep within his pocket,
Safe within it's silent socket,
He holds a coloured crayon.

Now from the tunnel's stony womb,
The carriage rides to meet the groom,
And opens wide and welcome doors,
But he hesitates, then withdraws
Deeper in the shadows.
And the train is gone suddenly
On wheels clicking silently
Like a gently tapping litany,
And he holds his crayon rosary
Tighter in his hand.

Now from his pocket quick he flashes,
The crayon on the wall he slashes,
Deep upon the advertising,
A single worded poem comprised
Of four letters.

And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding
The poem across the tracks rebounding
Shadowed by the exit light
His legs take their ascending flight
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night.

Billy Joel - Nocturne

Nocturne was released as an instrumental piece. However, there were lyrics
written for it. These are those lyrics.

When it rains
I watch the window
Golden dreams
Wash down the willow
Where are my Mardi Gras memories?
Under silver seas

Long cold nights
Change my reflection
Unsung songs
Show my direction
Where are my make believe victories?
Under silver seas

Ships pass over my head
Purple and blue, yellow and red
White sails catching the breeze
Sailing on silver seas

Once I lived
You might remember
Born in May
Died in September
Where are my carousel fantasies?
Under silver seas

Leonard Cohen - A Thousand Kisses Deep (Spoken Poem)

Don't matter if the road is long
Don't matter if it's steep
Don't matter if the moon is gone
And the darkness is complete
Don't matter if we lose our way
It's written that we'll meet
At least, that's what I heard you say
A thousand kisses deep

I loved you when you opened
Like a lily to the heat
You see, I'm just another snowman
Standing in the rain and sleet
Who loved you with his frozen love
His second hand physique
With all he is and all he was
A thousand kisses deep

I know you had to lie to me
I know you had to cheat
You learned it on your father's knee
And at your mother's feet
But did you have to fight your way
Across the burning street
When all our vital interests lay
A thousand kisses deep

I'm turning tricks
I'm getting fixed
I'm back on boogie street
I'd like to quit the business
But I'm in it, so to speak
The thought of you is peaceful
And the file on you complete
Except what I forgot to do
A thousand kisses deep

Don't matter if you're rich and strong
Don't matter if you're weak
Don't matter if you write a song
The nightingales repeat
Don't matter if it's nine to five
Or timeless and unique
You ditch your life to stay alive
A thousand kisses deep

The ponies run
The girls are young
The odds are there to beat
You win a while, and then it's done
Your little winning streak
And summon now to deal with your invincible defeat
You live your life as if it's real
A thousand kisses deep

I hear their voices in the wine
That sometimes did me seek
The band is playing Auld Lang Syne
But the heart will not retreat
There's no forsaking what you love
No existential leap
As witnessed here in time and blood
A thousand kisses deep

Eddie Vedder - Black

Hey...oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas,
Untouched sheets of clay...
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did.

Oh all five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun

Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything?

All the pictures have
All been washed in black,
Tattooed everything

I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter so why do I sear?

Oh and twisted thoughts that spin 'round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can drop away

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have, all been washed in black,
tattooed everything...

All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll
be...yeah...

I hope someday you'll have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be star,
In somebody else's sky,
But why, why, why
Can't it be, oh can't it be mine

Leonard Cohen - If It Be Your Will

If it be your will
That I speak no more
And my voice be still
As it was before
I will speak no more
I shall abide until
I am spoken for
If it be your will
If it be your will
That a voice be true
From this broken hill
I will sing to you
From this broken hill
All your praises they shall ring
If it be your will
To let me sing
From this broken hill
All your praises they shall ring
If it be your will
To let me sing

If it be your will
If there is a choice
Let the rivers fill
Let the hills rejoice
Let your mercy spill
On all these burning hearts in hell
If it be your will
To make us well

And draw us near
And bind us tight
All your children here
In their rags of light
In our rags of light
All dressed to kill
And end this night
If it be your will

If it be your will.

Incubus - Nice To Know You

Better than watching Geller bending silver spoons.
Better than witnessing new born nebulas in bloom.
She who sees from 'up high' smiles and surely sings.
Perspective pries her once weighty eyes and it
Gives you wings.

I haven't felt the way I feel today
In so long it's hard for me to specify.
I'm beginning to notice how much this feels
Like a waking limb... in pins and needles,
Nice to know you, good-bye x 4
Nice to know you... to know you

Deeper than the deepest Cousteau would ever go.
Higher than the heights of what we often think we know.
Blessed she who clearly sees the wood for the trees.
To obtain a 'birds eye' is to turn a blizzard to a breeze.

I haven't felt the way I feel today
In so long it's hard for me to specify.
I'm beginning to notice how much this
Feels like a waking limb... pins and needles,
Nice to know you, Good-bye x4
Nice to Know You,
To know... You

So could it be that it had been there all along?

I haven't felt the way I feel today
In so long it's hard for me to specify.
I'm beginning to notice how much this
Feels like a waking limb... pins and needles,
Nice to know you, Good-bye, x4
Nice to Know You
To know..You

Metallica - Wherever I May Roam

(And the road becomes my bride)

And the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
So in her I do confide
And she keeps me satisfied
Gives me all I need

And with dust in throat I crave
Only knowledge will I save
To the game you stay a slave

Rover, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I roam
Where I lay my head is home

(And the earth becomes my throne)

And the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone
I ask no one

And my ties are severed clean
Less I have the more I gain
Off the beaten path I reign

Rover, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will
Yeah, you wi-i-i-ill

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll take my time anywhere

Anywhere I roam
Where I lay my head is home
heh-yeah

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind
And I'll take my time anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
That's right

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

Carved upon my stone
My body lies, but still I roam,
Yeah yeah!

Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Woah

Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Yeah!

Wherever I may wander, wander, wander
Wherever I may roam

Yeah, yeah, wherever I may roam

Yeah, yeah, wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam

Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
Had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
(I) just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home."

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
(Back home.)

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" I said "You can keep my things,
they've come to take me home."

Bon Jovi - Someday I'll Be Saturday Night

Hey, man I'm alive I'm takin' each day and night at a timeI'm feelin' like a Monday but someday I'll be Saturday night
Hey, my name is Jim, where did I go wrongMy life's a bargain basement, all the good shit's goneI just can't hold a job, where do I belongI'm sleeping in my car, my dreams move on
My name is Billy Jean, my love was bought and soldI'm only sixteen, I feel a hundred years oldMy foster daddy went, took my innocence awayThe street life ain't much better, but at least I get paid
And Tuesday just might go my wayIt can't get worse than yesterdayThursdays, Fridays ain't been kindBut somehow I'll survive
Hey man I'm alive I'm takin' each day and night at a timeYeah I'm down, but I know I'll get byHey hey hey hey, man gotta live my lifeLike I ain't got nothin' but this roll of the diceI'm feelin' like a Monday, but someday I'll be Saturday night
Now I can't say my name, and tell you where I amI want to roll myself away, don't know if I can
I wish that I could be in some other time and placeWith someone else's soul, someone else's face
Oh, Tuesday just might go my wayIt can't get worse than yesterdayThursdays, Fridays ain't been kindBut somehow I'll survive
Hey, man I'm alive I'm takin' each day and night at a timeYeah I'm down, but I know I'll get byHey hey hey hey, man gotta live my lifeI'm gonna pick up all the pieces and what's left of my prideI'm feelin' like a Monday, but someday I'll be Saturday night
Saturday night, here we go
Some day I'll be Saturday nightI'll be back on my feet, I'll be doin' all rightIt may not be tomorrow baby, that's OKI ain't goin' down, gonna find a way, hey hey hey
Hey man I'm alive I'm takin' each day and night at a timeYeah, I'm down, but I know I'll get byHey hey hey hey, man, gotta live my lifeLike I ain't got nothin' but this roll of the diceI'm feelin' like a Monday, but someday I'll be Saturday nightI'm feelin' like a Monday, but someday I'll be Saturday nightSaturday night, all right, all rightSaturday night

Coldplay - Amsterdam

Come on, oh my star is fading
And I swerve out of controlIf I, if I'd only waitedI'd not be stuck here in this hole
Come here, oh my star is fadingAnd I swerve out of controlAnd I swear I waited and waitedI've got to get out of this hole
But time is on your sideIt's on your side nowNot pushing you down and all aroundIt's no cause for concern
Come on, oh my star is fadingAnd I see no chance of releaseAnd I know I'm dead on the surfaceBut I am screaming underneath
And time is on your sideIs on your side, It's on your side nowNot pushing you down, and all aroundNo it's no cause for concern
Stuck on the end of this ball and chainAnd I'm on my way back down againStood on a bridge, tied to the nooseSick to the stomachYou can say what you meanBut it won't change a thingI'm sick of the secretsStood on the edge, tied to the noose
You came along and you cut me looseYou came along and you cut me looseYou came along and you cut me loose

Joy Division - Twenty-four Hours

So this is permanent, love's shattered pride
What once was innocence, turned on its sideA cloud hangs over me, marks every moveDeep in the memory, what once was love
Oh, how I realized how I wanted timePut into perspective, tried so hard to findJust for one moment, thought I'd found my wayDestiny unfolded, I watched it slip away
Excessive flashpoints, beyond all reachSolitary demands for all I'd like to keepLet's take a ride out, see what we can findValueless collection of hopes and past desires
I never realized the lengths I'd have to goAll the darkest corners of a sense I didn't knowJust for one moment, I heard somebody callLooked beyond the day in hand, there's nothing there at all
Now that I've realized how it's all gone wrongGotta find some therapy, this treatment takes too longDeep in the heart of where sympathy held swayGotta find my destiny before it gets too late

Joni Mitchell - Blue

BlueSongs are like tattoosYou know I've been to sea beforeCrown and anchor meOr let me sail away
Hey, blueThere is a song for youInk on a pinUnderneath the skinAn empty space to fill in
Well, there's so many sinking nowYou gotta keep thinkingYou can make it through these wavesAcid, booze, and assNeedles, guns, and grassLots of laughs
Lots of laughs
Everybody's saying thatHell's the hippest way to goWell, I don't think soBut I'm gonna take a look around it, thoughBlue, I love you
Blue, there is a shell for youInside you'll hear a sighA foggy lullabyThеre is your song from me

Sawyer Brown - The Walk

Down our long dusty driveway
I didn't want to go
But I set out with tears in my eyes wondering
Daddy took me by the hand
Looked out at the school bus and his little man and said
"Don't worry boy it will be all right"

Chorus

Cause I took this walk you're walking now
Boy, I've been in your shoes
You can't hold back the hands of time
It's just something you've got to do
So dry your eyes I understand just what you're going through
Cause I took this same walk with my old man
Boy, I've been in your shoes

Down our long dusty driveway
I set my mind to go
I was eighteen and wild and free and wondering
Daddy took me by the hand
Looked at the world and at his grown man and said,
"Don't worry boy it will be all right"

Down our long dusty driveway
This time we both would go
He had grown old and gray
And his mind was wandering
Daddy took me by the hand
Said, "I know where we're going and I understand
Don't worry boy it will be all right"

Chorus

Kansas - Lamplight Symphony

On a winter's night, stars are cold and bright in the sky,
The slumber of the earth is pure and deep
From a distant wood, drifts the echo of a beast
The old man stirs and wakens in the night
He stands before his window gazing at the grave
Forgotten dreams are flashing through his weary mind
And though his life is empty, he pretends that she's still there

With hunger in his soul, he yearns for life and love gone by,
With memories his one and only joy
All he has to give, he would give to bring back the life,
And raise the one who lies beneath the snow
He lights a lamp and looks at pictures of the past
The faces of their youth still glow with new-found love,
But the picture's faded, and time has stolen youth away

With a spoken word that he thought he heard from her lips,
He felt another presence in the room,
He was filled with fear but filled with joy he arose
And turned to face the image that he knew
She stood before him and her hand reached out for his
A peaceful light shone in her eyes
She said she'd come to soothe him, and someday they'd be as one

She began to fade and her image disappeared,
So he was left alone to face the night,
Never in his life, had he been so held in awe,
As he faced the apparition of his wife
He stood before the window gazing at the grave,
And with a lightened heart he saw the first of dawn,
He knew that she was waiting, that someday they'd be as one

Simon And Garfunkel - A Hazy Shade Of Winter

Time, time, time, see what's become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities
I was so hard to please
But look around, leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Hear the salvation army band
Down by the riverside, it's bound to be a better ride
Than what you've got planned
Carry your cup in your hand
And look around, leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That's an easy thing to say, but if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend
That you can build them again
Look around, the grass is high
The fields are ripe, it's the springtime of my life

Ahhh, seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won't you stop and remember me
At any convenient time
Funny how my memory slips while looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme
Drinking my vodka and lime

But look around, leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Look around, leaves are brown
There's a patch of snow on the ground...

Robert Earl Keen - Think It Over One Time

You say you're clearing out, the devil's in your eyes
No time to walk, no time to talk, no time for long goodbyes.
The ticket's in your hand, you've made that final call,
The hard words flying by like punches in a barroom brawl

Chorus:
We've made a mess of things,
It makes no difference now let's chalk it all up to the blues.
Little girl, think it over one time
Little girl, think it over one time
Little girl, think it over one time
Before you break in your walking shoes.

I am just what I am, I won't apologize
So if you go you'll surely know you'll have to come to realize
Love don't walk away, only people do
So if you go or if you stay you know I'll keep on loving you.

(chorus)

We've made the hard time sing, we've made the miles roll by,
We've broken both our wings and still we've had the will to fly.
It ain't the memories, that make me talk this way,
It's more like someone pulled the plug before we ever saw the play.

(chorus)

I've read a thousand books, I've been behind the wheel,
I've known you all my life but still I can't feel how you feel.
It's only you for me, just like that whooping crane,
Who has one wife for all his life and if she dies, he'll do the same.

(chorus)
